血液型O型の彼が損している訳
慈悲深い血液型O型の彼が腎臓移植を望んでいるなら大変だ。シカゴ大学およびスタンフォード大学の研究者が「Transplantation」に発表した成績によると腎臓提供を待つ血液型O型の患者は最も不利だとはっきりしたようだ。
「お前はいいよな〜！俺ってO型だからお前に何かあったら助けてあげられるけど、俺に何かあってもA型のお前の血は分けてもらえないな。」
こんな会話をどこかで耳にしたことがある。それほど深く考えて言っている訳ではなかっただろう。しかし、本当にO型の人は損をしていたようだ。人のいいO型さんに慈悲がありますように。。。。。。
血液型O型の人は自分と同じ血液型の人に血液を提供できるだけでなく、A型やB型、AB型のひとにも血を分けてあげることが出来る。ところが、逆に自分はほかの血液型から血を分けてもらうことは出来ず、血液型O型のドナーが現れるのをただひたすら待たねばならないのだ。
必然的にO型患者への血液供給は少なくなるわけだが、腎臓移植についても輸血と同じことが言える。血液型O型の患者はほかの血液型に比べて腎移植の待機期間が長かったというのだ。
研究者はこのような不公平を無くすために血液型ABO対応の移植リスト作成時に、何らかの制限をかけた方がいいと良いと言っている。

2004年7月現在、米国で腎臓移植を待っているO型の患者は3万人以上いるらしく、この患者の数はほかの血液型よりも多いらしい。
